February 27, 2024 – The Lion King (1994)
Classic classic classic classic! I’ve seen this movie a bazillion times and it’s defintely a comfort viewing for me. Its influence is monumental, and the effect it’s had on me personally is also substantial. Arguably the best film from the Disney Renaissance.
February 25, 2024 – Quest for Camelot (1998)
I honestly can’t remember if I saw this when I was a kid or not. But what’s for certain is that I definitely never thought about it since then until I found a copy on VHS while thrifting the other day. The movie sort of has a reputation along the lines of “it was produced right in the middle of the Disney Renaissance, but Disney didn’t make it, therefore no one cared about it” – and I think there’s a fair bit of truth in that. But the bigger problem is that it tries to accomplish too much with too little. Definitely an essayable viewing experience which I’d like to work on when I get the chance.
November 15, 2023 – Cleopatra in Space
Completed all 3 seasons this evening. Very easy to look past all of its imperfections. Tons of fun!
November 2023 – My Life as a Teenage Robot
Completed all 3 seasons for the 2nd time. Loved it when I first saw it ~10 years ago, still love it today. This show is very nearly perfect, and the queer themes are even more visible to me now. Possible video essay currently in the works (11/15/23).
